Close to start date we will organise a ‘Stay and Play’ which is an hour long orientation where your child is able to see you in their new environment and begins the trust building relationship with the educators.
We know how daunting it can feel entrusting your child in someone else’s care, we aim to make this transition as smooth as possible. A child can take up to 12 weeks to settle fully into care.
Here are some gentle, practical tips to help your child settle into long daycare—whether it’s their first time or a new environment
1. Start with Short Goodbyes
Practice short separations at home or during visits to the centre. This builds your child’s confidence that you’ll always return, even when you leave.
2. Bring Something Familiar
A comfort item—like a teddy, blanket, or family photo—can help your child feel secure and bring a sense of home into their new space.
3. Build a Consistent Routine
Children thrive on routine. Try to keep morning drop-offs consistent in timing and rhythm. Predictability helps children feel safe and in control.
4. Stay Calm and Positive
Children often pick up on their parents’ emotions. Stay calm, confident, and reassuring—let your child know they’re safe, loved, and in good hands.
5. Allow Time to Adjust
It’s normal for children to take a few weeks to fully settle in. Be patient and give them the space to adjust at their own pace.
