FAQ
Education & Program
From the moment children arrive, learning and fun flow naturally throughout the day. Children are supported to develop independence through simple routines such as placing their bag in their locker, getting their water bottle, and putting on their hat for outdoor play. Our educators thoughtfully weave intentional teaching, open-ended play and meaningful interactions into every part of the day.
Our program is strongly child-led and play-based, with structured experiences introduced when they genuinely enhance learning. Educators follow children’s cues, interests and developmental needs to create rich learning opportunities.
We embed school-readiness skills throughout the daily program—social skills, emotional regulation, language and literacy foundations, fine and gross motor development, self-help skills, and independence. Our Preschool Program gently prepares children for the transition by incorporating routines and expectations similar to a school environment while keeping learning engaging and playful.
Children’s ideas, questions and emerging curiosities are observed daily and used to guide intentional experiences. Educators actively listen to children’s voices, reflect as a team, and plan in ways that recognise each child as an active participant in their own learning.
Ekidna Dee Why is staffed by a dedicated team of early childhood professionals, including university-qualified Early Childhood Teachers, Diploma educators, and Certificate III educators. We support educators undertaking a traineeship in Early Childhood Education. Many of our team members have long-standing experience in the sector and bring warmth, knowledge and continuity to our service.
We follow a nurturing, relationship-based approach. Educators model language for emotional expression, support children to name their feelings, and guide them through co-regulation. We use positive behaviour guidance, gentle problem-solving, and encourage empathy and confidence in social interactions.
We use ongoing observations, learning stories, developmental checks, and reflective team discussions. Families receive regular updates, photos, and summaries of learning through our communication platform, ensuring transparency and partnership in each child’s growth.
Daily Routine & Transitions
A balance of indoor and outdoor play, intentional experiences, group time, meals, rest, and spontaneous learning shaped by the children. Flexibility is key—we work with children’s needs rather than strict time blocks.
We prioritise relationships. Families are invited to attend orientation visits, meet educators, and gradually familiarise their child with the environment. Educators provide consistent comfort, reassurance, and connection.
Transitions are gentle and planned, based on developmental readiness rather than age alone. Children visit their new room gradually, meet educators, and explore the space before moving up.
We follow each child’s individual sleep needs. Younger children rest according to their home routine, while older children have a quiet rest period with the option to sleep if needed
We work in partnership with families to support toilet training in a calm, encouragement-based way.
